Our steps and paving team work across London

We’re often asked if our stone steps and paving specialists work in a certain area of London, “near me”. We work across all areas of London, Greater London and surrounding areas.

Expand the sections below to find out about just a few of our projects across the capital. See examples of our stone steps and paving in Battersea, Clapham, Highgate, Islington, Kensington, Knightsbridge, Notting Hill, Richmond and more:

At Robert Street WC2, just off the Embankment, we rebuilt, clad and repaired the internal stone staircase and flooring of a historic Georgian building, cladding it entirely in new Portland stone over a 2.5-month installation. At Montpelier Square, Knightsbridge SW7 we restored the natural stone front steps and refurbished the original metal railings to a terraced home.

At Eccleston Square, Pimlico SW1V we replaced four staircases – three basement entrances and one main street-level entrance –  replicating the original Thomas Cubitt-era specification on this Grade II Georgian square.

At Woodford IG8 we repaired and restored damaged stone steps at a residential property.

On Malvern Road, Hackney E8 we removed concrete-overlaid Victorian steps and fitted a Scout Yorkstone replacement carefully sourced to match the homeowner’s recently laid grey front garden paving, with a full waterproof substructure set within new walls.

Elsewhere in Hackney E8 we worked alongside a refurbishment contractor to rebuild a leaking staircase over a deteriorating brick vault, carrying out pointing repairs, installing a waterproof screed over the arch, and laying new stone treads. Once the vault was watertight, the space beneath was converted into a utility room.

At Highgate we designed and built new stone steps and paving for a residential property. On a Georgian terraced home in Islington N1 we replaced worn front-door steps with period-correct Yorkstone, installed modern waterproofing and refurbished the metal railings, and at Cloudesley Road, Islington N1 we removed deteriorated concrete and tiles, installed new Yorkstone steps on a waterproof substructure and refurbished the railings to restore a Georgian entrance. At Elsworthy Terrace, Primrose Hill NW3 we stripped out an asphalt covering and rebuilt the entrance with new Yorkstone steps, paving and a waterproofing system. On Kilburn NW6 we crafted and installed bespoke stone steps with fillet cavetto detailing, including a single 2.4m × 0.6m piece matched to the property’s existing brickwork.

At West End Lane, West Hampstead NW6 we removed asphalt-covered Victorian steps whose nosings had been cut off (leaving a dangerous 22cm tread), rebuilt the circular piers using curved timber shutters and poured concrete, laid 50mm York stone over a full waterproofing system, and cut anti-slip grip strips into each tread for older visitors.

On Branch Hill, Hampstead NW3 we found the asphalted-over original sandstone in some of the worst condition we’d ever seen – fully delaminated by years of trapped moisture – so removed the staircase entirely, fitted a two-layer waterproofing system, laid 50mm York stone, and rebuilt the side walls in reclaimed brick while salvaging and reusing the period triangular coping bricks.

At Acacia Road, St John’s Wood NW8 we overlaid a failed tiled staircase in 50mm York stone for Savills, replacing the threshold to accommodate the increased height and fabricating new railings to match the original design.

At Battersea we restored and renewed the stone steps and metal railings of a residential property. At Broadhinton Road, Clapham SW4 we replaced and upgraded the natural stone steps and paving throughout a three-storey Victorian terrace using period-correct Yorkstone combined with modern waterproofing. On St Mary’s Gardens, Kennington SE11 we installed new Yorkstone steps with bullnose edges, a plinth and paving path, and refurbished the metal railings as part of a full exterior renovation.

At Hartington Road, Stockwell SW8 we fully rebuilt the external staircase of a Georgian property in 50mm York stone over a new damp proof course and waterproofing system, and installed new structural lintels beneath the porch that improved headroom into the basement, transforming a damp void into a usable dry room.

At Trafalgar Avenue, Peckham SE15 we replaced the steps and re-laid the original riven York stone path on a Grade II listed Victorian property, producing CAD drawings and a stone sample for Southwark Council before work could begin under Listed Building Consent; the railings were shot-blasted, refurbished and reinstalled, with two layers of waterproofing extending over the open vault beneath both steps and path.

On Stockwell Park Crescent, Brixton SW9 we replaced a concrete-overlaid staircase on a Grade II Regency property in 50mm bullnosed York stone,  taking the opportunity while the brickwork was open to enlarge a ground-level window, bringing natural light into a previously dark basement room, and installing new lintels that improved headroom from below.

At Church Road, Richmond TW10 we rebuilt entrance staircases in sandstone and installed comprehensive waterproofing systems, creating usable space beneath the steps.

At Pentlow Street, Putney SW15 we redesigned the front garden of a Victorian semi with new stone steps and paving, bespoke replica cast iron railings, and – as a centrepiece – a bespoke cast iron arch fabricated in-house to span from gate to party-wall pier, designed to support a mature wisteria while reading as part of the railing scheme.

At Shaftesbury Road, Richmond TW9 we rescued a front-garden project after a previous contractor’s badly cut stone had to be removed and started again, designing a new layout with paving, planting areas, a boundary stone plinth, and replica cast iron railings and gate to restore the classic Victorian style the clients had been hoping for.

At Argyll Road, Kensington W8 we installed new stone paving, steps and external stonework across the front and rear gardens of a substantial family home. On a Kensington property we carried out a full restoration of a cantilevered stone staircase. At Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill W11 we replaced worn asphalt-covered Victorian steps with new Portland stone and installed a waterproofing system to protect the basement. On Warbeck Road, Shepherd’s Bush W12 we sealed a leaking coal hole cover into recessed Yorkstone, installed carved Yorkstone steps and a new glass riser, and repaired the entrance tiles. At Fordingley Road, Maida Vale W9 we replaced asphalt-covered steps with new stone, installed waterproofing and reinstated the original metal coal hole cover on a Victorian terrace; nearby on Warrington Crescent, Maida Vale W9 we precision-cut new stone steps for a curved basement-to-street staircase, corrected uneven heights, improved drainage and fitted custom wrought-iron railings.

At Holland Park W11 we lifted a tiled staircase to find that a previous owner had fully removed the original stone and replaced it with concrete; with the substructure sound, we waterproofed it with a fibrous flexible system and overlaid in Yorkstone, deliberately cutting into the side walls so the new stone could be set into the walls rather than just between them (the detail most overlays skip, which is why we so often replace them).

On Courtnell Street, Notting Hill W2 we overlaid a sound original staircase in Portland stone – chosen to complement the stuccoed facade – recessing the platform stone to retain the original coal chute cover without cutting through, and infilling the old coal hole with waterproofed concrete.

At Onslow Gardens, South Kensington SW7 we worked for Savills Plc on a Grade II Victorian terrace, installing new main entrance steps, new basement steps, and Portland stone paving with hidden-style drainage .
