Our team enhanced Matt’s home in Elsworthy Terrace, Primrose Hill, London, NW3. We designed, crafted and installed natural stone front door steps and entrance paving.

Our client Matt, writes:

“We chose Will and his [Stone Steps and Paving] team over others because they responded quickly to my initial enquiry, came around the house the next day and gave me a list of other properties nearby where I could see examples of their work.

“Overall I could not recommend the team highly enough. They are proper old style craftsmen, they really know what they are doing and gave me a lot of confidence throughout the project.

“The team were onsite about 8am every morning, they managed neighbours tactfully and once they finished the site was cleaned impeccably. Over the course of the project we discovered that certain items quoted for were not needed and Will revised his invoice accordingly making the whole experience painless for us.

“These guys are 100% recommended!”

About our work on this project

This grand property next to Primrose Hill park had recently been purchased by new owners who were keen to return the front garden and entrance to a more traditional look with a few modern touches.

The existing entrance path and steps were covered in asphalt. Our main job was to remove the asphalt and rebuild the steps and paving in attractive, durable, period-correct Yorkstone.

As the home is a few metres away from the park, the owners also wanted a solution to the large amounts of leaf litter that is blown into the garden during autumn.

After meeting with the owners and discussing options, it was decided that the path height should be raised from its previous position, which was flush with the pavement. To achieve this, the height of the steps were reconfigured and a drawing was produced for approval. Once all was agreed, work began to break out the asphalt and remove the steps beneath. Our waterproofing system was installed beneath the new treads and into the parapet walls to insure there would be no future water penetration.

When breaking out the pathway, a void was discovered beneath, which was hidden behind the basement bathroom wall. This was once a vault of some description and now offered further possibilities during the property’s overall refurbishment. Waterproofing above this void was carried out and the pathway and steps installed soon after.

We were on site for three weeks in total and the client was delighted with the finish, writing in his review that: “Overall I could not recommend the team highly enough. They are proper old style craftsmen, they really know what they are doing and gave me a lot of confidence throughout the project.”

After nearby homeowners saw the transformed steps and paving, we were pleased to receive several new enquiries about our services.
